Malaysia's G2000 Mk II FIC: A Challenge to Indonesia's Tank Boat Antasena?

Malaysia has recently unveiled its new G2000 Mk II fast interceptor craft (FIC), a vessel that is designed to patrol and intercept vessels in the country's coastal waters. The G2000 Mk II is a significant upgrade over the previous G2000 Mk I model, and it is clear that Malaysia is seeking to modernize its naval capabilities.

The G2000 Mk II is powered by two MAN V12 diesel engines that produce a combined output of 2,400 horsepower. This gives the vessel a top speed of 50 knots and a range of over 350 nautical miles. The vessel is also equipped with a remote-controlled weapon system (RCWS) that can be used to fire a variety of weapons, including a 7.62mm machine gun.

The G2000 Mk II is a significant challenge to Indonesia's Tank Boat Antasena, which is also a fast interceptor craft. The Antasena is slightly faster than the G2000 Mk II, with a top speed of 52 knots. However, the Antasena is also significantly more heavily armed, with a 30mm cannon and two 12.7mm machine guns.

The G2000 Mk II's RCWS is a significant upgrade over the previous G2000 Mk I model, which was only equipped with a 12.7mm machine gun. The RCWS allows the operator to fire the weapon from a safe distance, which is important for missions that involve close-quarters combat.

The G2000 Mk II's arrival is a sign that Malaysia is committed to modernizing its naval capabilities. The vessel is a significant challenge to Indonesia's Tank Boat Antasena, and it is likely that the two vessels will compete for contracts in the region.
