The Indonesian Armed Forces received the first 10 Kaplan MT medium tanks, also known as Harimau, on February 28, 2024. This marks a significant step forward in the joint development project between Indonesian state-owned company PT Pindad and Turkish defense contractor FNSS.

The Kaplan MT successfully completed rigorous endurance and firing tests in both Turkey and Indonesia during the prototype phase. Following the signing of a joint production agreement at the 2019 IDEF fair, mass production of the tanks commenced at FNSS facilities. The first batch of Harimau tanks, valued at $135 million, will equip the Indonesian army.

PT Pindad conducted additional firing tests at the Indonesian Army Infantry Training Center in Cipatat on February 24-25, 2022. These tests aimed to evaluate the functionality of the turret's 105mm gun and assess the effectiveness of design improvements.

The Kaplan MT project not only represents a crucial step in strengthening Indonesia's domestic defense industry but also signifies a valuable knowledge and technology transfer from FNSS. This collaboration has contributed to Indonesia's development of expertise and competence in tank production, aligning with the nation's strategic goals.
